London Illustration Fair

Exciting trip around this years London Illustration Fair. Lots to look at and get the creative juices flowing. These events are great to see artists and illustrators talking about their work and to bump into people you know.

I also completed a couple of commissioned projects due out next year that I look forward to sharing with you in the new year!

Jasper Johns: 'Something Resembling Truth' at the RA

Today I called into the Royal Academy to see the Jasper Johns exhibition. I was keen having seen the Rauschenberg exhibition at the Tate Modern earlier in the year and to see how their works might have influenced one another. I didn't feel too moved by a lot of the work until the room which had a focus on John's fixation with numbers and particularly the piece charcoal  '0 through 9', 1960. My own studio walls are smothered with drawings of items I obsess over, illustrated through a fascination and a constant curiosity and intrigue. I find it inspiring and comforting to see this in others work and to see how it can help push an artists work on. 

These are just some of the rambling thoughts I put in my notebook from my trip to the RA.

On a side note I often find it tricky to concentrate on the work on the walls when the floor grates are so beautiful. Ornate cast iron of the everyday - too good to walk over.
