A Portrait To Accompany The First Tool Drawings And Pattern Collection I Created

This is a drawing of my late Grandfather, his engineering tools
inspired my first fabric collection.

Tool Box Last Used in 1959

I recently revisited my original tool project and have created a finalised illustration from sketches and photos taken
when opening my late grandfather's tool box for the first time.
The box was closed in the late 1950's and left untouched.
The drawings made during this project were the start of my first tool based project and
my interest in recording themes of traditional craftsmanship and bespoke making.

More of the drawings are on my website
http://www.ruthemmafox.co.uk/drawings.html

and a selection of the patterns from my original project

London Cloth Company, Drawings Continued … A Selection of Pattern Design From The Project (Pre-colour)

London Cloth Company Special

London Cloth Company, The Drawings

This is a selection of images I drew as part of a project with the London Cloth Company.
The London Cloth Company was established in 2011 and is the first micro-mill to open in London. The company supplies fabrics produced by skilled crafters on looms dating as far back as the 1870's.
I documented the tools, machines and abstract parts used in this extraordinary establishment through drawing and photography. Looking through boxes of parts and old tools, I left with a huge archive of photos and sketches to work from.
This is a selection of the final drawings.
